| | WHAT'S YOUR CULTURE? i was talking to Sheng Ming on the phone after Garry &&& Yi Rou's birthday dinner three weeks back when we ended up in this very interesting topic. he was telling me how impressed he was with the fact that we, as in my other close Klang friends &&& i, never curse to each other. in his culture, the closer they are to one another, the more they curse to each other. what we meant by cursing in this context is by using various foul words to address one another or just plain using multi-foul words in conversations. &&& that got me thinking. so is my culture the weird one, or his culture is the weird one? i guess it all depends on individuals, on how they see things. for me, i believe that there is no point bottling up your feeling for your really close friends. perhaps, some egoistic ones may think otherwise but really, i would choose "eh, let's go yumcha later" to "eh fucker/bastard, let's go yumcha later". no, i am not trying to say that i am so pure that i don't curse to any of my close friends at all. i do, i do curse to Garry on daily basis &&& i do add in "fuck" in my daily conversation (yes, i am a loser who uses only one kind of foul word) but i never refer my friends to words like "bastards" or other funny words in various languages/dialects (note: i do not see bitch as a foul word). the worst i go is just "fuck you" which is pretty normal. so hmm, what is your culture? i am sure that many would belong to Sheng Ming's culture though, no? |
